Former Men’s Wearhouse location in Westport could become a pet clinic

WESTPORT — Pet owners in and around town can expect a new retail and veterinary care facility at 950 Post Road, called Kind Pet.

“This project will only involve interior renovations and necessary improvements for the operation of a first-class, high quality pet retail and veterinary care resource for cats and dogs,” Richard Redniss of land surveyors Redinss and Mead, said about the project in a letter to neighbors.

Representatives for Kind Pet did not respond to a request for comment.

The Planning and Zoning Commission was set to review the special permit and site plan for Kind Pet on July 10, but the meeting was postponed to July 17.

The owners are looking to convert the existing building, which used to house Men’s Wearhouse, into an animal clinic. The switch will require some interior renovations, such as new dividing walls, and minimal demolition to non-load bearing interior walls.

Redniss said the facility will not be used for pet daycare or non-medical pet boarding services, and no outdoor pet areas or other exterior changes are being proposed.

The interior will also be modified to include indoor relief stations that can be used as restrooms for pets and are similar to those used in some airports.

Operating hours are currently planned for 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturdays.

It has not yet been determined when Kind Pet will open if approved.
