, 15/03/2026
BC Ferries is letting pet owners bring their dogs and cats to the outside upper decks of vessels along three routes this summer under its expanded pet pilot program. Starting today, May 15, cats and dogs are allowed on select areas of outside upper decks on ferries traveling between Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay, Comox-Powell River and Earls Cove-Salery Bay. Dogs must be on a one-metre leash, and cats must be in a travel carrier while on the outer decks. , 14/03/2026
When Bernadine Swale’s marriage ended after 36 years, when she was 57, her first instinct – once she had recovered from the shock – was that she couldn’t manage alone. “The standard, cookie-cutter way you have to be in your 60s is man and woman, and you travel together,” he says. It took her a few years to realize: “Actually, no.” Now 68, Swale, a retired pharmacist, travels the world as a pet-sitter. Last year, she spent only 23 nights in her own bed, in a loft that looks out over downtown Denver. Pet-sitting stops have included London, New York,…

Birding Gir National Park, India – 10,000 Birds

, 12/03/2026
After several game drives, once again we are at the front gate of the Gir National Park in the state of Gujarat. This park protects the largest remaining tract of dry deciduous forest in the west of India, offering visitors 37 species of reptiles, 38 species of mammals and, not to be forgotten – almost 300 bird species. Still, for the majority of visitors, there seems to be only one species – some of the last of the 670 remaining Asiatic Lions (Panthera leo persica). Therefore, it is quite annoying to hear a common question from a passing Maruti Gypsy:…

The pet I’ll never forget: every night I would sing to Cackles the goose. Then tragedy struck | Life and style

, 11/03/2026
Cackles was not technically a pet, I suppose, and certainly not the border collie I desperately craved, but she was my favorite goose. She was physically difficult to pet, but I tried my best, stroking her long, muscular neck. I sang to her nightly while she sat there quacking along. Or quacking in protest. It was hard to know the difference. I was very proud of her. No one else I knew had geese, except for the Ballantine’s distillery down the road, which had about 100 guards the whiskey. But no one from Ballantine’s went to my school, so that…

, 09/03/2026
Play Brightcove videos While today’s proposals have been broadly welcomed, some campaigners say they simply don’t go far enough – as Geraint Vincent reports So-called no-fault evictions will be banned under new legislation, the government has announced. The Renters’ (Reform) Bill will allow tenants to challenge poor landlords without losing their homes, according to Housing Secretary Michael Gove. Veterinaries Share The 1 Food They Never Give Their Dog

, 08/03/2026
Dog owners often treat their pets like family, and sometimes this includes giving them a seat at the dining room table. It can be downright impossible to say no to the puppy dog’s eyes begging for that last piece of chicken bone, but vets say you should resist the urge. It’s crucial that owners be aware of foods that are harmful or toxic to dogs. Veterinarians often see dogs with avoidable health emergencies related to their diet.
