Seven secrets of the super-rich divorce

, 21/10/2025
The aging billionaire and younger new girlfriend trope isn’t without its dangers. A few years ago, a super-wealthy tycoon was in the process of burning through London’s top lawyers in a highly acrimonious divorce that was even thought to be one that would set new legal precedents. The proceedings were suddenly and brutally curtailed when he died of a heart attack during a penis enlargement operation in an exclusive clinic on the Champs Élysées. Lawyers speculated at the time that his incentive for this operation was a new, youthful girlfriend. 3. Their pets are worth more than you are The…

Veterinarians are borrowing big to create palatial pet clinics

, 17/10/2025
Comment on this storyComment To start 2020, Morgan McDaniel fulfilled a lifelong dream: She bought her own veterinary practice, a financial leap that took a $4.5 million loan. Then the pandemic hit, as did America’s pet adoption boom. Cat and dog parents kept asking McDaniel’s Montgomery Animal Hospital in Pineville, La., for more services. Could it provide long-term care for a dog’s torn ACL? Did it offer overnight boarding? McDaniel decided she could, tacking on a $750,000 loan to expand her practice by more than two dozen doggy bedrooms, an exam room for specialty procedures and an artificial turf play…

Animal rescue group help spay and neuter Texarkana pets | Texarkana

, 04/10/2025
TEXARKANA, Ark. – Animal advocates are offering low-cost spay and neuter clinics to help combat the overpopulation of pets in the Texarkana area. Last year, the Arkansas side of the city passed an ordinance requiring pets to be spayed or neutered. The spay and neuter clinic not only helps prevent unwanted litters, or pets that get dumped and left behind, but animal advocates say it also improves or promotes the animal’s health. Friends Furrever, a local animal rescue group, is sponsoring the clinic at the Texarkana shelter. Volunteer Virginia Rice says the clinic is especially helpful for pet owners living…

How many can YOU see in a day? – 10,000 Birds

, 29/09/2025
EBird really knows how to push my buttons. I mean that in a good way: By automatically showing one’s new year list each January 1st, and comparing it to one’s last several year lists, they always make me want to hit the ground running with as many species in my first week as I can manage. And in my case, that means heading up to Lake Cuitzeo. (Except in the sad year of 2020, when Lake Cuitzeo had almost completely dried up by January 1st.) Most years, a day in January of serious birding around Lake Cuitzeo can give me…

ZooMiami’s search for plastic bottles includes crocodiles’ guts

, 23/09/2025
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – When a plastic bottle fell into the area where two endangered crocodiles, Leroy and Princess, live at ZooMiami, the fear of a potentially deadly digestive obstruction prompted veterinarians to act quickly. Award-winning photographer Ron Magill, a spokesman for the zoo, reported Wednesday that the Cuban crocodiles had to be sedated to undergo radiographs on Tuesday at the zoo’s animal hospital. “Over the years, everything from cell phones to sunglasses have been retrieved from the bellies of animals at the zoo, causing significant stress and in some cases, physical harm,” Magill wrote in a statement. In 2019,…
