MANILA — A new platform launched by Globe’s corporate venture builder 917Ventures aims to provide easier access to health care for pets.
PetPal is a digital service that connects users to licensed and accredited veterinarians. It offers online consultations from anywhere in the country, as well as home visits and vaccinations and offline bookings with partner vets for customers in Metro Manila.

More people than ever are turning to Feeding Windsor-Essex’s pet food bank as inflation hits grocery bills hard for humans and pet food. And local organizations say the number of people who’ve had to surrender their pets because of rising costs has more than doubled in the last three years.
“Some people come here, [they say] ‘We haven’t got enough money to live on,” said Darlene Druer, a volunteer at the local pet food bank. “‘But our animals have to have food.”

A two-year-old chihuahuas who is smaller than an ice-lolly stick has been crowned the world’s shortest dog.
Pearl the chihuahua, who was born in Florida, took the Guinness World Record after measuring 9.14cm (3.59in) in height and 12.7cm (5in) in length.
She is a relative of the previous record holder, Miracle Milly, who died in 2020 before Pearl was born – Pearl is the daughter of one of Milly’s identical sisters.

An Ontario woman feared her dog was going to die after ingesting fibers from a $9 rope toy.
“I was panicking. He’s a puppy, and if they hadn’t done that second ultrasound, I could have lost him,” Wendy Sunday, of Midland, Ont., told CTV News Toronto.

CHENNAI: Owners of several thousands of exotic pets in Chennai are waiting with bated breath as there are just two days left for the new, amended Wild Life (Protection) Act to kick in across the nation.
