George Santos, RN.Y., pleaded not guilty in federal court Wednesday to 13 criminal counts, including wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds and making false statements to the House of Representatives. Dogs may be at risk of lead poisoning after “very high” concentrations from shotgun pellets were found in raw pheasant pet food. After testing out samples of raw pheasant dog food, researchers from the University of Cambridge discovered that the majority contained high levels of lead, which could put dogs’ health at risk if they ate it frequently. The researchers looked at 90 samples from UK dogs food products and found that more than three-quarters – 77% – had lead concentrations higher than the maximum residue level (MRL) permitted by law. The animal shelter in Yellowknife is facing a crisis as southern shelters continue to be over-capacity and overwhelmed. The situation down south directly affects the NWT SPCA as it means more animals north of 60 are staying in the Yellowknife shelter longer, making it impossible to take in more unwanted animals.
