Poland’s EU office wins praise as the only Polish embassy in the world to welcome pets

, 26/05/2023
Poland’s permanent representation to the European Union has won praise for being the only Polish embassy in the world to allow staff to bring their pets to the office. Ambassador Andrzej Sadoś, who introduced the policy, said the animals help reduce workplace stress. While pets are not permitted in European Union institutions such as the commission, council and parliament, Poland’s permanent representation to the EU encourages its staff to bring their canine companies to work, especially if the animals would otherwise be left home alone. “Here you sometimes work several hours a day, seven days a week,” Sadoś told news…

, 25/05/2023
By Radhika Anilkumar (Reuters) -Britain’s Pets At Home is stepping up investment in digital services such as virtual consultations, even as some pet owners cut back spending in areas such as grooming and accessories in the cost-of-living crisis. The company said on Thursday it would invest 400 million pounds ($505 million) over the next five years on its expansion plans, which include a “one stop shop” digital platform integrated with its products and services. The platform will allow owners to access their pet’s history, organize virtual medical consultations, and place orders for prescriptions and food without going out. “There is…

A new start after 60: I embraced being single and became an international pet-sitter | Life and style

, 21/05/2023
When Bernadine Swale’s marriage ended after 36 years, when she was 57, her first instinct – once she had recovered from the shock – was that she couldn’t manage alone. “The standard, cookie-cutter way you have to be in your 60s is man and woman, and you travel together,” he says. It took her a few years to realize: “Actually, no.” Now 68, Swale, a retired pharmacist, travels the world as a pet-sitter. Last year, she spent only 23 nights in her own bed, in a loft that looks out over downtown Denver. Pet-sitting stops have included London, New York,…

The pet I’ll never forget: every night I would sing to Cackles the goose. Then tragedy struck | Life and style

, 19/05/2023
Cackles was not technically a pet, I suppose, and certainly not the border collie I desperately craved, but she was my favorite goose. She was physically difficult to pet, but I tried my best, stroking her long, muscular neck. I sang to her nightly while she sat there quacking along. Or quacking in protest. It was hard to know the difference. I was very proud of her. No one else I knew had geese, except for the Ballantine’s distillery down the road, which had about 100 guards the whiskey. But no one from Ballantine’s went to my school, so that…
